MATIAS ROKIO - DRUM SET & PERCUSSION
I have always been interested in metal music and bands, of which I am most greatful for my dad who introduced me to guitar and to my some of my all-time favorite bands! At the age of nine I took my first drum lesson from our neighbour, which sparked a fire that would last for a lifetime. After a couple of years, things took a more serious turn, and for the past 15+ years drums have been in the very centre of my life. I grew up with metal legends such as Iron Maiden, Metallica and Pantera where I drew my inspiration at first, but quite quickly I started to get into more technical side of music and metal in particular. I’ve always cherished the purely technical aspects of drumming such as the fine nuances of different drumming techniques, but my main goal is still to keep things grooving and do something unique with drums rather than treating the instrument as purely technical.
With nearly all of my life revolving around drums, I have multiple musical ventures going on as I always need to have something productive to do. I have been sessioning for many artists and I also play in bands such as Sargassus, Frozen Land and Erase This Earth. After Chrism contacted me and I heard Simulacrum’s music, I was instantly fascinated by the unique blend of technicality, modern metal sound and captivating melodies. Joining their ranks has been a great pleasure and a means for challenging myself, which I really plan to do when the recordings for the fourth album start. There will be lots of crazy things happening with drums, you just take my word for it!
